This is going to be a short race report as I want to put this race behind me as quickly as possible. Unfortunately, I had a rough race today.
My race today started off great! I had one of my best swims ever in a World Cup Race. I headed out on the bike extremely excited about how my race was going. I started feeling bad pretty early on in the bike. My legs felt fine, but I was having a hard time breathing. Throughout the bike, I worked really hard to just hang in there. I just wanted to get to the run. My running has been going so well lately that I was very confident that if I could just get to the run I could end up having a great race! What I did not realize, however, was that my breathing problems on the bike were actually a result of my asthma acting up. As soon as I started to run, my asthma hit full force. I kept trying to run well, but it was useless today. Once my asthma kicks in, my body just shuts down from the lack of oxygen. I stuggled through a very slow 10k. Looking back, it probably would have been better if I had just stopped, but I have never dropped out of a race a before.
I am pretty disappointed because I am not really sure what triggered my breathing problems today. I started using a new inhaler five months ago and since then I have not had any breathing problems in workouts or in the first two races. It just came out of nowhere. I wish I knew what set it off. I know that things happen during races, but I really thought I was going to have a great one today! I just felt so ready!
Needless to say, I just want to put this race behind me and look forward to my future races.
I had a great week in Hawaii at the Asics photo shoot. It was an awesome experience. I will try to write a small report on the photo shoot in the next week or two.
Thanks to all of you for your encouragement and support! I definitely needed it today!
All the best,
Kelly
